ABSTRACT

Book talk by Dr. Ryan Jones, author of Red Leviathan: The Secret History of Soviet Whaling (University of Chicago Press, 2022). The purpose of this event is to expand the arguments on the oceans and globalization by taking up Soviet whaling, which has not been studied extensively, for discussion.

SHORT BIO

Ryan Tucker Jones is the Ann Swindells Associate Professor of history at the University of Oregon. He is the author of Empire of Extinction: Russians and the North Pacific’s Strange Beasts of the Sea, 1741–1867 and coeditor of Across Species and Cultures: New Histories of Pacific Whaling.(Reproducing from the author’s page of University of Chicago Press)
