OUTLINE

Curtis Chin, a Chinese American documentary filmmaker and writer from Detroit, has recently published his memoir Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant, which recounts his experiences growing up in a Chinese American community. The book highlights the activism within Detroit’s Asian American community, with a particular focus on the impact of the Vincent Chin case, as well as the intersections of race, urban life, and community identity.

In this book talk, Chin will share insights not only from his perspective as an Asian American and queer writer, but also as a longtime community activist. The event will include a discussion of his experiences, the significance of his work, and the broader implications of his activism for both the Asian American and queer communities.
