OUTLINE

In American metropolitan cities, the displacement of minority communities due to downtown redevelopment and gentrification has become a major social issue. This seminar welcomes Dr. Themis Chronopoulos, whose research focuses on urban policy and Black communities in the United States. He will discuss how Black communities have experienced recent gentrification in three cities with distinct historical contexts: Brooklyn, New York; New Orleans; and Washington, D.C. Following comments by Dr. Hiroshi Takei, the seminar will further explore the relationship between cities and minority communities in the era of gentrification.
