公開講演会オリエンタリズムと西洋セクシュアリティの国際化

概要

本公開講演会では、コロンビア大学中東・南アジア・アフリカ研究科教授であるジョセフ・マサド氏を招聘し、性をめぐる知が、いかにして植民地主義と結びついてきたのかについて議論を行う。ジョセフ・マサド氏はこれまで、2007年の著作Desiring Arabsや2015年のIslam in Liberalismにおいて、ポストコロニアリズムの立場からクィア理論やセクシュアリティ研究の在り方に厳しい批判を向けてきた。しかしながら、セクシュアリティ研究と地域研究のはざまに位置する氏の主張と著作は、日本語圏において必ずしも十分に紹介されてこなかった。本講演会では、基調講演から氏の主張と影響を多角的に捉えるとともに、日本におけるセクシュアリティ研究と地域研究の（不）可能性について議論をしたい。

登壇者プロフィール

ジョセフ・マサド氏は、コロンビア大学における現代アラブ政治と思想史の教授で、これまで、Colonial Effects: The Making of National Identity in Jordanや、The Persistence of the Palestinian Question、Desiring Arabs、Islam in Liberalismを含む数々の著作・論文を執筆している。また、新しい著作であるThe Age of Independence: A Global History of Settler-Colonialismもプリンストン大学出版会より出版予定である。さらにその受賞歴に、 the Lionel Trilling Book Award やThe Scott Nearing Award for Courageous Scholarship、またThe Columbia University Faculty Mentoring Award などがある。氏の著作は、アラビア語やトルコ語、中国語、ペルシャ語、フランス語、イタリア語、スペイン語、オランダ語、スウェーデン語、ドイツ語、そしてインドネシア語に翻訳されている。また、氏はロンドンが拠点の雑誌Middle East Eye とArabi21の常設コラムニストでもある。

Joseph A. Massad is Professor of Modern Arab Politics and Intellectual History at Columbia University. He is the author of several books, dozens of scholarly articles, and hundreds of op-eds. His books include Colonial Effects: The Making of National Identity in Jordan, The Persistence of the Palestinian Question, Desiring Arabs, and Islam in Liberalism. His new book The Age of Independence: A Global History of Settler-Colonialism is forthcoming from Princeton University Press. He is a recipient of a number of research and teaching Awards, including the Lionel Trilling Book Award for his book Desiring Arabs, The Scott Nearing Award for Courageous Scholarship, and The Columbia University Faculty Mentoring Award, His works have been translated to more than a dozen languages including Arabic, Turkish, Chinese, Persian, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, German, and Indonesian. Professor Massad is also a regular columnist in English and Arabic at the London-based publications Middle East Eye and Arabi21.
